FAQs

Strobe Lures

What is your warranty for Strobe lures?

We warrant to the original purchaser that this Glowbite Strobe Lure is free from defects in materials, assembly, and electronic craftsmanship for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase. If the water-activated LED mechanism, wireless charging array, batteries, or protective epoxy matrix fails due to a factory defect, we will repair or replace the unit at our discretion.

Are the batteries in Strobe lures safe?

Yes, the batteries that we use in Strobe lures are safe, they have been subject to rigorous testing in accordance with UN38.3 protocol and passed without issue. Each lure contains two Lithium Ion 3.7 volt batteries with an output of 320 mAh (1.18 watt hours).

Please contact us by email if you want a Material Safety Data Sheet with information relating to the batteries in your Strobe lure.

Can I transport my Strobe lure on an airplane?

Strobe lures should be transported in your airplane carry-on luggage. Your lure contains two lithium ion batteries that are completely sealed and protected by epoxy resin. They are classified by the International Air Transport Association as "Lithium Ion batteries contained in equipment" (Code UN3481). As such, Strobe lures are safe to transport by air in quantities weighing less than 5kg (the batteries in one lure weigh less than 25 grams).
Please contact us by email if you would like a Material Safety Data Sheet with information relating to the batteries in your Strobe lure.

Could a big fish break my Strobe lure?

The electronics in your Strobe lure are molded into solid epoxy resin. This makes the lure incredibly strong. There are no moving parts inside the lure or air spaces that could be crushed.

We have a video on our Tips and Tricks page that shows a Strobe lure working fine after being run over by a 3 ton vehicle.

In the highly unlikely event that your lure stops working after being attacked by a big fish then please post it back to us and we will replace it for free.

What position in my spread should I run my Strobe lure?

Strobe lures are supplied with 5 different head shapes to ensure that there is a suitable lure for every position behind your boat. Each Strobe lure is listed on our website with details of head dimensions, weight and ideal position in your spread.

How long do the Strobe lights flash for?

Strobe lures flash for up to 12 hours when placed in water. The water forms an electrical connection between the two brass electrodes on the front of your lure, so the lure will continue to flash while it is in the water. The light should stop flashing as soon as it is removed. If the light does not stop flashing, you may need to dry the two brass electrodes and the area between them.

Are the Strobe lights rechargeable?

Yes, Strobe lures are supplied with a custom built wireless charger. The batteries can be fully recharged in about 4 hours.

How do I recharge my Strobe lure?

Simply plug the wireless USB charger supplied into a good quality power supply that delivers 15w or higher. Center the head of your lure on the charger with the light facing upward. The light panel should illuminate with a dull glow. Two lights illuminated = 20% charge, four lights illuminated = 40% charge and so on. When all ten lights are glowing, then the lure is fully charged.

If no lights glow on your lure, then you may need to change the position of your lure slightly to better align the charging coil inside the lure with your charger (because your lure is handmade, there can be some variability in the position of the internal charging coil).

Lights in Lures

My lure has a light in it. How long does the light last?

The lights that Glowbite uses are water activated and last for 70 hours in water. They should turn off as soon as they are removed from water and dried.

Watch this guide for more details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIGUEeLjKRU

My lure has a light in it. How do I care for this light?

Your light should last for 70 hours in the water. When you remove it from the water, check that it has stopped flashing. Do not store the light in damp container.

If the light does not turn off this will be due to dried salt or fish slime forming an electrical contact between the two brass pins on the light. To fix this, rinse the light with fresh water and then dry with a cloth or paper towel. If the light still does not turn off rub/scratch between the two brass pins with a dry paper towel until the light turns off.

The light on my lure got stored wet and now it is flat. How do I replace it?

The lights that Glowbite uses are a completely sealed unit with the components encased in solid resin. This means that they function perfectly, even in depths of 400m plus. However, the batteries cannot be changed.

Replacement lights can be purchased on our website here. To replace the light, put your lure on a soft object (an old jandal is perfect) and use a hammer and punch to knock the light out of the lure. Scrape or sand away any remaining glue in the hole that the light came from. You can then glue your new light in using an epoxy glue or hot glue.

Subscriptions

Why is the courier cost charged separately?

We apply the courier cost as a separate charge because the cost of courier varies depending on where you are in the world and whether you are living rural or in a city. Your individual courier cost is calculated when you enter your address details at check out.

I want to subscribe what will I get?

When you first subscribe you will get a free lure sent to you. This lure is counted as free because any payment that you have made goes toward the 4 Innovation Boxes that you will get sent over the next 12 months.

There are currently two kinds of subscriptions available; regular subscriptions and double subscriptions.

For a Regular Subscription you will receive the first free lure and then an additional 4 Innovation Boxes over 12 months. Each Innovation Box will contain an average of $45 of fishing products (or more).

For a Double Subscription you will receive the first two free lures and then an additional 4 Double Innovation Boxes over 12 months. Each Double Innovation Box will contain an average of $90 of fishing products (or more). Basically a Double Innovation Box contains two of everything, but we often vary the weights and colours of the lures so that you are covered for more fishing scenarios.

I want to buy a subscription as a gift for a friend

Our Innovation Boxes make fantastic gifts because they are designed to satisfy the needs of fishing enthusiasts everywhere and they are always accompanied by videos on how to use the latest gear.

The best way to set your friend up with a subscription is to buy them a gift certificate here. This means they can choose the subscription they want and set up password access that will allow change of address details etc in the future.

Later, your friend will be sent an email just before their subscription expires asking if they want to renew it.

I pay monthly, why don’t I get a box each month?

Our Innovation Boxes are sent out quarterly at the start of each new season. So, we send one in Spring, one in Summer, one in Autumn and one in Winter.

We set up the monthly payment system so that customers can spread their subscription cost out over the year, but by restricting the frequency of sending out the Innovation Boxes to quarterly (once every 3 months), we are able to reduce the cost of courier and increase the value in each box.

When is the next box going to arrive?

Your next box will be sent as close to the start of the new season as possible. When it is Winter, you should get your next box in early Spring, when it is Spring, you should get your next box in early Summer… and so on.

Subscribers are always sent an email with a tracking number as soon as their Innovation Box is picked up by the courier.

Occasionally, we have delays associated with supply chain and the logistics of getting the fishing lures that we have developed completed and shipped to New Zealand. When this occurs we keep subscribers informed of progress via email and our exclusive Facebook group. We always ensure that boxes are delivered in the appropriate season and that subscribers get very good value for money over the year.

Why have I been charged when nothing has been delivered?

Our Innovation Boxes are sent out quarterly at the start of each new season. So, we send one in Spring, one in Summer, one in Autumn and one in Winter. This means that a new box is sent every 3 months, enabling us to reduce the cost of courier and increase the value in each box.

Therefore, a regular monthly subscriber will see a subscription charge on their bank statement every month (currently $10 plus 1/3 of the courier charge). Every third month they will receive an Innovation Box worth $45 or more.
